Inequalities in demographic behavior according to the family background are increasing in South Korea. The majority of parents in Korea provide active support for their children¡¯s marriage and childbirth and help them experience life-cycle transitions without difficulty. In this social context, this study predicts that the first childbirth after marriage will also differ according to parental resources. According to the results, financial assets and educational background of paternal grandparents had positive effect on childbirth. These results showed that childbirth behavior in Korean society may be unequal depending on the socioeconomic background of the family.
